Well, I am back from Diane and Seung’s wedding up in Mammoth. Wow. It was really amazing and incredibly well produced. Great locations (Korean BBQ under the stars, wedding ceremony up in the snow-covered mountains, reception in little in near a river), great people, great food...really beautiful. I was really pleased to be a part of it (I was the DJ). I have spent probably about 40 hours over the past month getting ready for this gig (mostly learning Live, warping tracks, and buying new music) and it all worked out amazingly well. The track selection was good, the mixing was, for the most part, consistently smooth (as it should be, since Live was doing most of work) and the sound system more than sufficient. (The picture above, by the way, is from a Razorfish NY Christmas party in 2000.)
I am really tired. Mammoth is up there, like 8,000’ up there, and it took me awhile to get used to the altitude. On Friday night, instead of rocking my Elvis (or Prince) (or Sinatra) track during Karaoke (and watching Whit tear it up), I spent the evening working on music and reading comics. I was asleep at midnight...and barely slept. It was super hot all weekend and the place didn’t have air conditioning (which makes sense probably for most of the year, I guess).
So much to write about, it’s kind of frustrating. I still have to write about my Iraq war conversation with the fighter pilot, which was really amazing. And there are a few books that I am reading that I have been really enjoying...oy.
I watched Syriana last night and quite enjoyed it, despite getting a bit confused during parts of it. It’s a good movie and I am looking forward to watching it again. I was too tired last night, I think, and went to bed feeling a bit down and powerless in the face of oil companies and the military industrial complex.
This was wedding #2--#3 comes up this weekend up in San Francisco. Whit and I drive up Friday afternoon and back down again on Monday...and then, finally, we will be able to just stop living out off luggage...or not, actually--we have a few things in July, too! Busy.
More later. I just want to post this and get going!
