who smoked my June?

Holy crap!

So much has happened that I have actually opened this up, started typing, and then just quit.  The quick:

- Mike and Vanessa’s wedding was really fun and excellent, the whole bit.  Mike not only did a terrific job of marrying Whit and me, but most of my close friends as well, so this was a really significant occasion for many in the audience.  I ended up winging a toast during the reception (I had planned on it but wasn’t asked to make one so I didn’t end up breaking it down into beats like I did for Steph and Kenji’s) which went over pretty well...Mike and Vanessa are pretty easy targets for singed praises.

- Zak was in town for a few days after and we ended up having a great time bro’ing it out in LA.  I was talking about it with Whit and Zak is probably one of the guys in my life that I have spent the most time with, just purely on a minute to minute basis with, so we have a pretty good thing going for driving around and doing stuff. We ended up seeing a great Dan Flavin retrospective at LACMA on Monday, which was a real treat; it’s awesome to see art with Zak, who is very tuned in to art history, galleries, art culture, the whole bit. All in all, a real nice bonus to spend some time with one of my oldest friends in the known universe.  Moments like those, moments that used to be so numerous as to defy acknowledgment, are so sadly rare that one does not usually realize how important they are until a bit of time has passed. Geography, man.  Inconvenient and weak.

- Just heard word that I should be getting the final DVDs for the Comcast and the more recent spot that you haven’t heard much about soon.  I will post them as soon as I get them.  Can’t wait; I have been playing around with iMovie and iDVD to make a reel, and I am “reely” pleased with the results.  I am using pictures from my trip to Japan for menu backgrounds and they look pretty terrific (I think I mentioned that before).  (Update - I got the DVD yesterday and it looks great; I just need to wait until it airs before I can post it...oy!)

- Last night was Tobie’s birthday bash at The Village Idiot, a place a I like an awful lot on Melrose.  I went after a great class (I am really enjoying getting a chance to play more “serious” roles, I will admit again) and had that post-class bumpy “let’s GO!” energy.  We ended up going back to Isa’s place and made a kind of opening credits sequence to a fake 70’s show.  I will get the video tonight and tweak the audio, etc.  Over the summer I want to film scenes in the characters we chose--just one take, at totally random times--and see what we kinds of stories we can tell.  I’m pretty excited about this idea and am going to write up a general plot overview for the summer to see what we can make together.

So there it is...I’m looking forward to a few things in July:

- Annual Texas 4th of July BBQ bash at “the cool Texans” place.
- Comic-Con
- Trip with Whit to Mexico for a long weekend
- Daft Punk concert
- Booking more work!

cool.  talk later.
