distress thesess

Kind of a long week, but some good things came out of it.  Had a lovely time playing records at Barcopa in Santa Monica, thanks to DJ’s Drüe, Henry and Miya, and am looking forward to seeing how that Tuesday night ebbs and flows.  Paul is coming down next week,  I guess, so maybe we can get him to play a few tracks before he takes them back to SF with him.  In fact, I think I will be giving back a few boxes of records so Al can finally have them back, which means I will just have to get some new ones--or play more B sides.

Had a few auditions this week, two commercials and one sitcom.  It’s good, but of course I am going to be in WWDC during the shoot dates, so who knows what will happen.

I was listening to NPR this morning (I am going to film my commute a few times next week for a podcast to see how to make that interesting) and heard all about these dead patches in our oceans.  I guess there will be a 5 part series in the LA Times about this starting Sunday (I will link to it), which should just be so hopeful.  It’s just amazing to me how fast everything seems to be plummeting.  The effects of pollution on our environment are really starting to stick, the amount of trash that our societies throws into the ocean continues to grow--they stay there are at least 42,000 pieces of plastic in every square mile of the ocean, or something crazy like that, I will find it in the article.  Everywhere this guy goes, there was trash.  At the Midway Atoll, which is way far away, where all these crazy birds were hanging out, supposedly free from humanity...well, the chicks were dying, and when the researchers cut them open, they found toothbrushes, legos, lighters...

Sad.  Disgusting.  Worrisome.

I mean, maybe this is coming to light now because we are actively looking for these problems?  It’s a combination of both, of course, but it makes me sad for the future, really.  I just makes me feel sad to think about what future generations are going to have to contend with.  I am usually pretty optimistic, but every so often, when I try to split my worrying between the middle east, pollution, crime, etc...it’s nuts.

My big question is why conservatives are so against the idea of global warming.  Even if it’s not “right”, even if it somehow proven to be untrue, aren’t the steps we should be taking to address it good for everyone anyway?  What’s the harm in acting “as if” global warming were real?  Only good, right?  Why won’t Bush watch Gore’s movie?  It’s not just an American issue--what’s he so defensive about?

I dunno.  After over 100 people dying over the past three weeks due to this insane heat, all I can wonder if what July 2016 will be like.

More fun later.
