3 days till Tuesday

It’s the Friday before Memorial Day!  3 Day Weekend, yah!  Oh MAN, it’s gonna be GREAT!

Dude, we work too much as it is. We shouldn’t have to look forward to a 3 day weekend.  It should be a happy surprise, not this thing we have been looking forward to since the last one.  Irritates me.

The pic above is the same moment (well, close to it) shown in the previous entry, only in the callback.  They sent us the callback so we would remember what we did; it’s actually pretty cool see the before and after, I will figure out if it’s kosher to post it or not.

What cool week!  I am getting emails from all over the place from friends who have seen the Comcast spot.  The feedback has been fantastic, I am happy to say--thrilled to say, actually--and I admit, I am feeling good...and relieved.  I was wondering when the thing would air (we filmed it on March 21st and it started airing, as far as I can tell, on May 19th) and what takes they would use, how people would react, etc.

What’s funny is that a lot of people that I know here in LA don’t actually know I am an actor, especially people I work with or friends of friends, which has apparently lead to some confusion.  But more gratifying is being able to show my friends here that have never seen me do anything on stage, who know that I have been going to auditions for awhile now, what I actually can do.  I mean, all actors do something, but they each do it differently, you know?  I have had quite a few people comment on my voice, which was kind of surprising.  So, to everyone who has written, thanks a lot, I really, really appreciate it (I have been waiting to write something like that sentence for years, I must admit!)

So, it’s cool.  There will be more, definitely.  I had a really nice and encouraging talk with Kelly, my manager, and everyone is excited about this year.  These two clips will be very helpful in getting me auditions for the upcoming season.

What else?  Well, we have a busy weekend.  I really want to see The TV Set, which comes highly recommended from my teacher and has received some great reviews--and looks to be quite spot-on for how a show gets on the air.  Oddly enough, for a such an “inside baseball” movie about the film business, it’s only at one theatre here in LA, and only showing twice.  Hmm.

Reading Mamet’s Bambi Vs. Godzilla, and I am really enjoying it.  I’m also reading  The Story of Star Wars, and, oddly enough, they are quite similar books.  Both show how freaking impossible it is to make a movie, all the hurdles, all the challenges, all the BS, all the personalities, all the egos, all the headaches, and at least with the former book, how it can actually all come together to make something totally new and fantastic.  While I am not as big a Star Wars fan as I used to be (or as my friends might say I am), I think the first two are dope and am really into how the first one was made, how so many different technologies has to be repurposed (or invented), how concepts about filmmaking had to be rethought, how elements of the movie changed movies for the foreseeable future and what it takes to truly bring a singular vision to film.

Anyway, everything’s pretty good right now.  I’ve got a callback to look forward to on Tuesday and work is hectic but positive.  I was getting a little freaked, just a bit--I have been getting called back a lot (I’m 8 for 10 right now) but booking.  No matter, patience...

So, I am off to downward dog my Friday away.  Have a great weekend, I will try to post during it if something interesting happens...

*Update*

good morning!  So Whit tells me she really wants to show people this little video that we took after the filming of the Comcast spot.  I didn’t really wanna keep going on about the same thing, so I just figured I would ad the link to this entry.  Check it out here.
